Kids Class FAQ's

What age can my child start BJJ?

We welcome kids starting from 3 years old! Our classes are age-appropriate, with a focus on fun, safety, and building coordination for our youngest students.

Does my child need any experience?

No experience is needed! Our kids' classes are designed for complete beginners as well as more advanced students. Everyone learns at their own pace.

What should my child wear to class?

A clean BJJ gi and belt are required. If you're trying a class, we can provide a loaner gi to start. Please make sure your child has clean hands, feet, and trimmed nails.

Is BJJ safe for kids?

Yes! BJJ is one of the safest martial arts for children because it’s focused on control and technique, not striking. We maintain a strong focus on safety, supervision, and mutual respect during training.

Can parents watch class?

Yes, but we ask that you stay off the mat and refrain from coaching. Silent support from the sidelines is best so your child can focus on their coach and learning.

What if my child is shy or nervous?

Totally normal! Our instructors are experienced in helping shy kids feel welcome. Many children start out quiet and quickly grow in confidence with regular attendance.

We’re excited to have your child on the mats with us! To create a fun, safe, and respectful environment for all students, we’ve put together a set of simple rules for both parents and kids. These guidelines help ensure that every class runs smoothly and that all students get the most out of their training.

Please take a moment to review the rules below with your child. With teamwork between coaches, kids, and parents, we can make every class a positive experience for everyone!
